What does an address in District of Columbia look like?

A typical District of Columbia mailing address follows the standard US format — house number and street, city, the state code DC, then a 5-digit ZIP code:

515 Maple St, Washington, DC 20001

Here 20001 is a real Washington ZIP code, so the city, state and ZIP pass region-consistency validation. The street and house number are sample data — use the generator above to produce more random District of Columbia addresses with names and phone numbers, or copy individual fields straight into your form.

Washington, DC is not a state — and that breaks forms

The District of Columbia appears in the state dropdown of most US forms as "DC", yet it is a federal district, not a state — a classic source of validation bugs. DC street addresses carry a quadrant suffix (NW, NE, SW or SE, e.g. "1600 K St NW") because the same street name can exist in four quadrants. ZIP codes sit in the 20001–20599 range and nearly all phone numbers use the 202 area code.

How to fill District of Columbia addresses into forms

  • Street Address takes the house number and street name.
  • City must be one of the District of Columbia sample cities, e.g. Washington.
  • State accepts either the full name "District of Columbia" or the two-letter code "DC".
  • ZIP Code has to match the selected city — mixing regions is the most common validation failure.

Responsible use

Generated District of Columbia addresses are for development, QA, checkout flows and interface demos. They are not verified delivery addresses and should not be used to impersonate people or bypass service rules.

States bordering District of Columbia

Neighboring states use different ZIP code prefixes, area codes and sales-tax rules, so switching to a bordering state is a quick way to test another region branch of your form.
